Charles Badr Nagy Rafael, MD, FRCOG is an SRC accredited Master Surgeon in Multidisciplinary Endometriosis Care. He currently practices at Medcare Women and Children Hospital in Dubai but has worked at hospitals all over the world. Dr. Nagy Rafael has a long list of impressive credentials and experience. We were honored when he took some time to answer a few questions for us regarding his work with endometriosis care.
What drew you to this field?
I started my interest in minimally invasive surgery nearly 20 years ago and a special interest in endometriosis surgery over the past 15 years. I was always passionate about helping patients suffering from endometriosis pain and infertility, especially when I see the rewarding success of such difficult surgery and the impact on their quality of life.
What does your SRC accreditation mean for your patients?
Patients could spend years looking for a gynecologist who can listen to them and acknowledges their genuine pain and at the same time has the experience to be able to manage their problem using a holistic approach. SRC as a highly reputable and trusted organization gives confidence to patients that their accredited surgeons have been through a rigorous assessment to ensure they are experienced enough to give the highest standard of care in their field.
What would you tell someone who maybe hasn’t sought treatment for endometriosis yet?
To all endometriosis patients I say, don’t put up with pain and complications of the disease, please seek advice from an accredited endometriosis specialist. Do not believe the myth that endometriosis is an incurable disease and no point of treatment, as the management is successful in experienced hands depending on your symptoms. The sooner you get diagnosed and managed the better it is to avoid complications and halt progress of the disease.
What is one of your greatest achievements related to endometriosis care?
I am so proud to have established a multidisciplinary endometriosis service for the first time in private sector in Dubai. I am so honored and privileged to be one of the very first surgeons achieving the prestigious SRC accreditation in multidisciplinary endometriosis care after years of hard work in the specialty. SRC’s rigorous evaluation process has proven our commitment to delivering excellent care to our patients that prioritizes safety.
